After facing our own health challenges, learning to advocate for ourselves, and navigating the gaps in the current healthcare system, we recognized a critical need for authentic, trustworthy wellness resources. This is why we founded Mellness — to empower everyone with the opportunity to make positive, joyful changes for better health and well-being, one step at a time.

Mel
Kinesiologist & Wellness Specialist
Mel grew up in a household rich with athletics, sports, and recreation, which sparked her passion for movement from an early age. In addition to playing numerous sports, she began studying tap, jazz, and ballet at the age of six, and by the time she graduated high school she was already performing professionally.
At 19, Mel became a Certified Personal Trainer with the goal of helping herself and other dancers build strength and versatility. During her undergrad she began practicing yoga with a yogi master and guru, and discovered a more enlightened version of herself. Inspired by her yoga practice, Mel opted to dive deeper and completed a 200hr Yoga Teacher Training- providing her with new insights into the body, mind and soul.
She went on to earn her BFA in Dance and an MA in Dance Pedagogy, further deepening her expertise. After a successful global career as a professional contemporary ballet dancer, Mel transitioned into the field of Physical Therapy- where working directly with patients fueled her passion for the body, health, and wellness. Witnessing the profound impact she could have on improving others' quality of life inspired her to pursue an MS in Kinesiology & Exercise Science.
In addition to her formal education, Mel has earned certifications in several specialized areas, including Mindfulness Coaching, Corrective Exercise Specialist, Guided Meditation & Visualization, Ayurvedic Nutrition, Neuromuscular Repatterning, Somatic Healing, 200hr RYT, Biomechanics, Stott Pilates, Assisted Stretching, Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program, Certified Personal Trainer, American Barre Instructor, and Ai Chi.
Her comprehensive background in movement, therapy, and holistic wellness has allowed Mel to build a career focused on helping individuals achieve their fullest potential. As a Kinesiologist and Wellness Specialist, her mission is to creatively share her extensive knowledge and skills, joyfully guiding others toward living their healthiest, happiest lives.
Dan
Certified Personal Trainer & Sports Specialist
Growing up in rural Northern California, Dan’s passion for sports began at an early age, with baseball holding a special place in his heart. From the time he could throw a ball, he was drawn to the sport, spending countless hours on the field honing his skills and developing a love for competition. As a young athlete, he quickly became known for his dedication and natural talent, eventually lettering in three sports during college. His early experiences with baseball, combined with his diverse athletic background, helped him understand the importance of "cross-training" — long before it became a popular concept in the fitness world.
After college, Dan pursued his dream of becoming a professional baseball pitcher, dedicating nearly a quarter-century to playing and coaching the sport. Throughout his career, he gained a wealth of knowledge about athletic performance, injury prevention, and the mental and physical demands of high-level competition. His deep understanding of sports science and human performance laid the foundation for his current work as a Certified Personal Trainer and Sports Specialist.
Now retired from competitive sports, Dan's focus has shifted to helping individuals of all ages and fitness levels improve their health and well-being. He applies scientifically-backed training methods to create effective, sustainable fitness plans for each individual. Drawing on his expertise, Dan works closely with clients to assess their current fitness levels and personal goals, crafting customized programs that integrate cardiovascular conditioning, strength training, and flexibility work.
Dan’s approach is designed to ensure clients not only achieve their fitness goals but build a strong foundation for lifelong health. With a focus on education and understanding, he helps clients see the “why” behind every exercise, empowering them to make informed choices. Whether you're an athlete seeking to elevate your performance or someone simply looking to improve your overall health, Dan combines his vast experience and passion for fitness science to help you reach your fullest potential.
Cookie
Marketing & Cuddle Specialist
Cookie is more than just a beloved member of our family; she’s an integral part of our wellness journey at Mellness- and she’s excited to be part of your’s too!
Adopted from the Oregon Humane Society on January 22nd, 2019, Cookie’s story is one of resilience and love. She was found malnourished and hiding behind a dumpster in a well-to-do Southern California neighborhood after being released into the streets. Once she was rescued, she spent five weeks traveling up the Oregon coast from shelter to shelter, until she arrived in Portland. It was here that Cookie’s gentle demeanor and loving soul found their forever home with us, and she’s been an irreplaceable part of our family ever since.
As our Marketing and Cuddle Specialist, Cookie brings comfort, joy, and unconditional love to everyone who walks through our doors. Trained as an ESA, her intuitive ability to sense when someone needs a little extra support makes her a vital part of the Mellness experience. Whether she’s offering a calm presence during stressful moments or simply sharing a cuddle, Cookie’s healing energy is a reminder that emotional well-being is just as important as physical and environmental health.
At Mellness, we believe in a whole-body approach to wellness, which includes nurturing our emotional health. Cookie’s role reminds us that sometimes, the best way to find balance is to slow down and enjoy the comforting presence of a loyal companion.
